THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ ORCHESTRA CONTINUES THEIR
SPRING SEASON WITH THE MUSIC OF THE ROLLING STONES THIS VALENTINE’S DAY WEEKEND.

After the moving premiere of Irvin Mayfield’s original composition #____BlankLivesMatter, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO) will now interpret a Classic Rock icon through a Jazz lens._

NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 10, 2016) – Grammy Award-winning musician Irvin Mayfield and the 18-piece New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO) will continue their Spring concert series this weekend with The Music of the Rolling Stones. They will perform at their home – the Peoples Health New Orleans Jazz Market (PHNOJM, 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard) – starting tomorrow, February 11th, through Saturday, February 13th.

“The Rolling Stones captured the sound of a generation and permanently changed the landscape of music,” said NOJO Artistic Director Mayfield. “Jazz is known for being transformative, and the Stones also sought to create a new, unique sound. We plan to take their iconic music and investigate it through a Jazz lens, which has never been done before.”

The Rolling Stones is one of the most iconic bands from the past 50 years. Their music has been a soundtrack to many people’s lives, whether conscious or unknowingly. From commercials to Super Bowl performances to award-winning films, their music permeates throughout American culture. With their music’s roots in blues, it stems from an early form of Jazz that was adapted into a more folk-like sound, later influencing rock and roll. Since The Rolling Stones are synonymous with rock and roll and continue to remain relevant, Mayfield and NOJO will explore their iconic music through the lens of Jazz. Through specialized orchestration and new musical conception, arrangers will reanimate these anthems for the orchestra in fresh and exciting ways.

Media opportunities will include event/performance photos and videos, onsite interviews with guests, and studio interviews with NOJO representatives and musicians. The week of events at the Peoples Health New Orleans Jazz Market will include:
