Irvin Mayfield & the NOJO Jazz Jam
Every Wednesday at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse, Artistic Director Irvin Mayfied and Musical Director Derek Douget perform with musicians from the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and special guests. Each month, the NOJO selects a New Orleans Jazz Icon whose music they feature. The NOJO Jazz Jam also serves as a mentoring and professional development program for young New Orleans Jazz musicians. The program is simple: invite budding young artists and give them an opportunity to strengthen their craft in front of a live audience.
Masters Series
Through a partnership between NOJO and the University of New Orleans (UNO) that links UNO’s strengths in Jazz education with the NOJO’s professional and performance expertise, NOJO commissions three professional Jazz musicians each semester to create and perform music based on certain themes. Each piece is premiered at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse then performed in the community at museums, festivals and New Orleans Public Library branches. Additionally, NOJI hosts a combined performance and a Jazz Studies Master Class at UNO.
House Concerts
Each month, NOJO hosts a Sunday afternoon concert and jam session at Irvin Mayfield's home for NOJO supporters and friends.
