PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS

HOMETOWN CONCERT SERIES

NOJO presents Spring and Fall Concert Seasons for New Orleans. NOJO is the first and only professional Jazz organization to produce a local, ticketed Jazz concert season in the city that created it. The 2013 NOJO Hometown Concert Series is being presented by Popeyes.

NATIONAL TOURS

Jazz music was born in the City of New Orleans, and the NOJO shares this tradition throughout the country.  The NOJO has headlined most of America’s major performing arts venues and clubs, including Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Ravinia Festival in Chicago,The Dakota Club in Minneapolis and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.

IRVIN MAYFIELD & THE NOJO JAZZ JAM

Every Wednesday at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse, Artistic Director Irvin Mayfied and Musical Director Derek Douget perform with musicians from the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and special guests. Each month, the NOJO selects a New Orleans Jazz Icon whose music they feature. The NOJO Jazz Jam also serves as a mentoring and professional development program for young New Orleans Jazz musicians. The program is simple: invite budding young artists and give them an opportunity to strengthen their craft in front of a live audience.

NOJI MASTERS SERIES

Through NOJI, our partnership with the University of New Orleans (UNO), NOJO commissions three professional Jazz musicians each semester to create and perform music based on certain themes. Each piece is premiered at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse, then performed within the community at museums, festivals, libraries, and other venues. Additionally, NOJI hosts a combined performance and a Jazz Studies Master Class at UNO.

NOJO HOUSE PARTIES

Each month, NOJO hosts a Sunday afternoon concert and jam session at Irvin Mayfield's home for NOJO supporters and friends.

NOJO House Parties have featured performances by the following music icons: "The King of Treme" Shannon Powell, Cyril Neville, Glen David Andrews, Brass-A-Holics, Ellis Marsalis, Davell Crawford, Leon "Kid Chocolate" Brown, Little Freddie King, George Porter Jr., James Rivers, Rebirth Brass Band, and Gerald French & the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band.
